arts-based research within the paradigm of interdisciplinarity

„Bridging” is a central principle in the current scientific ethos of encouraging interdisciplinarity in an international environment. Based on the constitutive role of boundaries as both dividing and joining concepts, our research project discusses the implications of Georg Simmel’s image of the bridge for arts-based research, especially as it focuses on Deleuzian concepts and notions. As Simmel draws on epistemological and anthropological dimensions of separation and connection, we transfer this image to an understanding of art as linking heterogeneous parts and materials within an ongoing process of „becoming”. We therefore use Deleuzian concepts like „assemblage” and „plane of composition”, which stress the openness as well as the connectedness of networks of art.
